The final piece for the show is emerging in the final short weeks before.

The sun was back this afternoon: much quicker ‘souldering’ times.

Thinking about fourth piece… Need for variety whilst remaining with the extraordinary scale of stage production of the ‘folies’ in the 1920s and, well,  excess and extravagance.

Ba-Ta-Clan: Les Libellules.

Fully inspired: thank you to Paris, its infamous ‘Ba-Ta-Clan’, frivoulous 1920s costumes and Friday the 13th.

Do we always turn objects over, or do we only see surfaces?

Perhaps sometimes we can’t even touch the said given object, so form visual judgements of sensory weight and touch from an image, or from behind glass.

Who’s to say you couldn’t be surprised?

The Florenz Zielfeld Follies.

At the beginning of the 1920s, The Zielfeld Follies dance shows were transported to New York, inspired by the popularity of the Follies Bergères in Paris.  Photographer Alfred Cheney Johnston infamously welcomed the shows across the Atlantic and captured the showgirls and productions for 15 years.  Provocatively handled pearls, draping and suggestive compositions with props contributed to Ziegfeld’s overwhelming strategy to ‘sell sex’.

The next pieces in this year’s collection will encompass the repetition of the dancers’ arrangements in choreography and the unprecedented scale of the New York stage shows.  The pieces will be designed with these features in mind and following the image of a poised Katherine Burke above.
